Traditional timber – with a sophisticated twist
If you’re a lover of natural materials, fine things and time-honoured craftsmanship, timber is the perfect choice for you – but how to bring this classic material up-to-date?
The answer here lies in the ingenious mixing of colourways by our design experts.
So dark as to be almost black, our deep, sultry Jacobean oak finish has a wonderful patina and a subtle sheen that helps to bounce light back into the space around.
By using this cosseting colour for almost the entire design, but adding in a warmer tread in traditional oak, not only is extra visual interest created by this most subtle of contrasts – but it also brings the whole look into the modern age with a bang.
Glass, glass and more glass
One of the biggest concerns we see from clients when it comes to introducing dark tones into their hallways is the perceived loss of light.
After all, few entrance spaces are blessed with an abundance of natural light, and so it can seem daunting to do anything other than bring in pale neutrals.
But, by pairing our slimline Molto balustrade with the clean simplicity of inline glass panels, our design experts have ensured that every ounce of daylight will filter unencumbered through the space, maximising the natural light from both the landing window above and the front entrance.
Painted Risers and Handrail
One of our favourite design touches to this statement staircase is the almost-complete colourwash, matching the dark tones of the Jacobean oak from the newels to the trims; the handrail to the painted risers.
Here, painting the risers is a particularly effective touch. The riser is the vertical position between each tread. Because it faces you when you approach, it’s the part which naturally draws the eye – making it ripe for decoration.
As well as maximising the impact of this dramatic colour scheme, this choice illustrates just how bespoke our designs can be.
