Timelessly elegant and with a decorative flair that nods to the past but is designed for the future, we’re delighted to debut our stunning Basso steel staircase.
A contemporary interpretation of the enduringly classic Art Deco look, this sophisticated piece is guaranteed to transcend trends, bringing chic style to the heart of any home for many years to come.
Join us as we take a deeper look into what inspired our design experts, and how they have interpreted the Art Deco look for the modern home.
Always popular, the Art Deco movement is seeing a particular resurgence in interior design, with its subtle glamour as modern today as it was in its heyday.
With its geometric forms, delicate contrasts and warm metallics, our beautiful Basso staircase takes the best of the movement and interprets it for the modern home.
By combining our smoked oak finish with the soft tactility of brushed gold steel, our design experts have created a look that is super-luxe without feeling overly dramatic, or too bold.
When paired with a neutral, minimalist hallway, the staircase is elevated to create a truly striking design feature, the ultimate statement entrance to your home.
A key element in Art Deco style, the Basso staircase uses a soft geometric pattern for a wonderfully arresting visual impact that also allows light to flood freely, saturating the space from the large windows above and magnified by the light neutrals of the decor.
The ultimate in joining past and present, the geometric forms of Art Deco style draw as much from modern art movements and mathematics as they do from antiquity.
Blending the angular shapes of Cubism and Futurism with elements of Greco-Roman, Egyptian and Aztec art, it is the use of these shapes which perhaps represent the most enduring feature of Art Deco design, and explain why this is a style built to stand the test of time.
It’s not just the combination of the smoked oak finish against the brushed gold steel that catches the eye in this gorgeous staircase.
Our design experts have also added a hint of another Art Deco mainstay – monochrome.
But, instead of the traditional black-and-white, they have instead used a more delicate touch, choosing to pair painted risers in a mellow white with the deeper tones of the smoked oak balustrade.
One of our all-time favourite design elements of any staircase? The warmth, tonality and depth that metallics bring to a design.
Though here we’ve chosen the gentle glow of brushed gold, our powder-coated steel staircase finishes range from warm copper and antiqued brass to bolder shades, like slate and black, meaning you really can create the look of your dreams.
Better yet, steel itself is the most versatile and practical of materials – capable of creating stunning, organic shapes like this, which allow light to flow freely while maintaining their rugged durability!
In this stunning scheme, our design experts have chosen a range of carefully curated pieces that sit beautifully alongside the styling of the Basso balustrade – helped all the while by the fabulous Deco leaded window to the half landing.
Two types of lighting add extra ambience to the space – with a stunning, fluted glass wall light illuminating the base of the staircase, while a dainty table light casts a glow over the reading nook to the right.
A deco-style home bar in a matching gold metallic adds sophistication and social functionality to this beautiful hallway, while pieces of monochromatic abstract art add a pop of visual interest to the walls.
And let’s not forget a touch of biophilia!
No modern decor would be complete without some lush greenery, which brings the beauty of nature to the hallway and half-landing to soften the whole scheme.
